Andrea and Kaleb "Tie the Knot"

We joined up with Kaleb and Andrea in Tulsa over Memorial weekend ... The day was humid -- but we avoided the rain right until the newlyweds drove off ...

We were honored to be a part of their special day --- Thank you for allowing us to photograph your special day !!

Here's some of our favs from the day...

Kaleb was moved when he saw his beautiful bride for the first time ... So touching ...

What a fun gang !! We had so much fun on the grounds at the beautiful location Andrea and Kaleb selected... And so did the "crew" !!

Here -- the girls help Kaleb get ready for photos by showing some "poses" he could use for the photos !!

The lovely flower girl taking special care with her flowers.

The couple really did have something very old --- Kaleb's great grandmother's clip earrings were attached to the ribbons on Andrea's bouquet...

And Andrea's grandmother's handkerchef was stuffed into her bouquet...

The BARN was rustic -- and decorated to match Andrea and Kaleb's love for fun and the outdoors ---

Allison gives Andrea a thumbs up before they all go down the aisle ...

The theme --- pink and green --- and LOTS of green apples ... When asked about that, Andrea's Dad explained, "Andrea just loves green apples." Good enough for us to take some very fun and unique ring shots ....

And they leave just before the skies opened and it poured ...

We wish the couple the very best that life has for them ... Lots of love and blessings...

1st Look

One of the questions we ask our couples during our planning session with them is, "How set are you about seeing each other before the wedding?" Most know that answer right away -- and often, their answer is based on a very old tradition set up in medieval times... MORE in a bit about that !!

Our philosophy about this is simple ---

WHATEVER THE COUPLE WANTS IS THE WAY WE WILL PHOTOGRAPH THEIR WEDDING ... no exceptions...1st look - no 1st look -- it's the couple's call. You won't be pressured by us one way or the other ...

Are we biased one way or the other -- you bet ...
There are lots of pluses to this method of modern wedding day photography -- About 50% of our couples choose to do the "1st Look" -- either way -- we will create GREAT portraits of your wedding day for you --- and yet, as photographers who have done LOTS of weddings -- we have seen from those who chose the "1st Look" that the stress of the day just seems to melt away and they can then focus on each other during the ceremony.

Here's a some of the shots from weddings where the couple did what we call the "1st Look"... These are the photos that often get "ohhhhh" and "ahhhhs"... And yet -- had the couple decided NOT to do the "1st Look" -- we just wouldn't have had enough time to take these awesome portraits...

Here's some things you need to know to help you make your decision:

Photographs and Memories doesn't do the "1st Look" the way most photographers do --- we have a very special, romantic, touching way to do this --- we'll share it with you during our planning session with you ...We have had a daughter get married and understand how very special the moment is when she sees her groom in front of family and friends and he sees his beautiful bride walking toward him to begin their life's journey together... And how, as parents, seeing her walk down the aisle with her father on her wedding day, dressed in the stunning gown-- the flowers -- the music. Or in Bill's case, escorting her down the aisle to the most important person in her life ... I'll tell you right now, I cried a bucket full when Bill kissed Kay and passed her off to Cliff, her groom ... Cliff in tears and Kay covering her emotions with laughter ... It's one of those moments that you can NEVER CREATE or RECREATE ... It's just magical.

Our "1st Look" does NOT in anyway take away from this very precious moment... Our brides still cry -- our grooms are moved (not always to tears, but often are) -- and our families -- well -- let's say this moment in the wedding always needs lots of "hankies"... So, it is important to us at Photographs and Memories that the "1st Look" NOT take away from the the "sacred moment" of the bride coming down the aisle -- escorted by that special someone in her life -- greeted by her groom, her soulmate -- and being presented to her groom . This moment stays moving and emotion felt...

Another thing that you need to know to help you decide -- "1st Look"... no "1st Look" is exactly how the TRADITION of NOT SEEING EACH OTHER and the "bad luck if you see each other before the wedding" came about:

This is by RELENTLESSBRIDE on Blogger Bride at getmarried.com.
The tradition holds to the idea that in ancient times, often the first time the bride and groom saw one another was at the actual ceremony b/c many marriages were arranged. Thus, in fear that either the bride or groom would reject the other prior based on disliking the other's looks, they were kept from seeing one another until the actual ceremony. Also, the veil was used to hidden the bride's face until the actual ceremony was done and the legalities were sealed with a kiss at which point, it was too late to change your mind. Thus, they say it is bad luck to see each other before the actual ceremony. As one blogger puts it "So the tradition that it’s “bad luck” for a man to see his bride before the ceremony really started out as insurance for her dad (b/c he had arranged the marriage of his daughter with a stranger)"

AND ..... (long drawn out ANNNNNDDDD)...
If you're on the fence -- not sure if you'd like to do the 1st look ...
Here's some of the reasons WE know it works ...

1- The wow moment can still be there as when you walk down the aisle, except in this private moment, the bride and groom can truly enjoy it with full emotion and the privacy of holding on to that moment between the two.

2 - Photographs can be taken of immediate family, friends and bridal party before the ceremony. This will make the after ceremony photo session shorter, and let the bride and groom get to the reception earlier -- and have more time mingling with their guests -- before the guest LEAVE...

3 - We, the photographers, can focus on "the moment" that the bride and groom see each other. We can then get the bride and the groom's reaction at the "1st Look"... This gives us a chance during the ceremony to not only capture the bride and groom's reactions, but the family and audience members, too.

4 - The Bride and Groom can also pick the scenery in which these pics will be taken... this can give this set of photos a more artistic scenery while also maintaining the pictures from the actual ceremony.

5 - It can alleviate the "stress" of seeing one another making the moment more enjoyable and less stressful during the ceremony.

6 - Enjoy the photo shoot without worrying about the guests or that you are missing out on the cocktail hour.

7 - You feel fresher. Make up, hair and etc are all fresher. And if its earlier in the day, it could be cooler depending on which season you have your wedding in.

8 - Technically, last minute details can be discussed. Emotionally - it really can be more romantic and dramatic this way, b/c the wow factor would still be there but there will would also be less distraction!"

9 - we think is the most appealing factor --GUESTS AREN'T KEPT WAITING WHILE YOU DO PHOTOS

10 - and did we say -- you get OVER TO THE RECEPTION SOONER??? before the food and drink is ALL GONE !!

Whatever you decide -- "1st Look", no "1st Look" ... IT'S YOUR WEDDING !!! and please remember this VERY IMPORTANT THING -- it is an honor for Photographs and Memories to be selected to take your wedding day portraits. We can't wait to help you create memories that will last for generations..

Meagan and Adam -- God's Love

Adam and Meagan's story is so moving and touching ...
Their families have prayed for their love long before both of them were born ...
Their families have know each other forever ...
Their families brought them together ...
But most importantly -- their families lead them to Christ ...

"As for me and my family, we will serve the Lord," Joshua shared to his flock...

And what a beautiful love story this is...

We are honored to be a part of this special union -- and we have some awesome photos to share with you from their engagement shoot... Although it was a bit "cold", it was a beautiful day...
And we had a sunset that photographer's can only dream of ...

Yes --- God shined on us and them this day...

Here's some of the ones that moved us ...

Kenda and Gavin - FIREWORKS !!

Yes - there will be fireworks on their wedding day !!! We were hoping that a couple would "tie the knot" on July 4 -- And Kenda and Gavin are our couple !!

Kenda called us on Christmas Eve after she found out about us through her best friend -- Andrea (shout out to Andrea and Kaleb!!) -- whose wedding we will be honored to be a part of in May.

Kenda is a fellow scrapbooker and a teacher (elementary- GOD BLESS HER !!), so we had a lot in common and hit it off right away.

Gavin, who does automobile restoration - met her in college at OSU -- whew hew Cowboys!! -- at a bible study class...

The rest is history ...

We met up with them in Tulsa on our way home from Vegas -- and had a COLD, WINDY, but fun evening with these 2... And there were plenty of fireworks that day between the 2 -- ok -- hokey I know -- but cute ... right ??!!!??

For real ... we can't wait for the real fireworks to begin and look forward to being a part of their special day!!

Here's some shots from the day that touched us ....

We started the day outdoors -- in a grassy park .... Don't you just love their smiles?

BILL'S FAV SHOT OF THE DAY!!

Bill loved this shot of the couple -- The way Kenda just reached up and "touched" Gavin can be seen in his eyes.... Bill was really moved when he saw this shot. Got a little choked up, he did ....

Notice their reflection in the table... Nice lighting work, as usual, by Bill.

OUR 2 PHOTOGRAPHER SHOT ...

A's first as they are getting into the elevator...

Then BILL's from across the hotel -- 2 stories up...

Even though the grass wasn't deep green - the field made for some great shots ...

We just loved Kenda's laugh -- she'd crinkle her nose and giggle -- Such a fun laugh -- and Gavin seemed to enjoy helping us capture her laugh.

And some more of the couple...

"A's" fav shot of the day ...

We call this our sultry pose -- and it either works or it doesn't --

Bill really played off the light source and created a dark, seductive, mysterious look that I really fell for ... Just LOVE IT !!

And our traditional shot ...

We wish Kenda and Gavin happy wedding planning !! See you in a few weeks for the PREVIEW !!!

Valley of Fire

While visiting Vegas for our annual convention -- we took a day and went out to the VALLEY OF FIRE --- where the red rocks of the desert sands stand out and glow.
We both humbled by of the awesomeness of this landmark.

Here's some of our fav images from the day...

I just love this shot of Bill -- standing there with this historic landmark in the background ... taking in the scene with camera at his side. This is such a great photo of him -- it shows him like he is everyday -- quite and pondering -- yet appreciative of life and all its blessings...
I am so blessed to share this life with my soul mate ...

The red rock against the dark sandstone desert hills.

The desert cactus with the Valley of Fire behind it...

The people of the valley ... They really did look like people -- we saw ALF among them, too.

Bill at work ....

It's a really small world ...

We saw this 3 generation family taking time out to grab some lunch . I thought it was really cool to capture them traveling, playing, and relaxing together as a family at such a beautiful place.

As we visited with them -- we found out that they have a daughter that lives in Greenwood and works for the City of Ft. Smith --

Now we travel over 1000 miles -- go 1 hour outside of Vegas -- and take "1" family's photos -- and they end up having family from our neck of the world ... Things that make you go .... hum ....

Thanks for sharing in our trek on this day !!

"A's" RAZORBACK rock -- she swears it looks like a Razorback -- and I have to agree with her this time --- by Bill

The lone tree of the desert.

More "people" rocks ...

The tumbling tumble weed - in bloom.

Another - people among the rocks...

Here is a great shot that "A" got that really picked up the red of the rocks in the setting sun.

YODA -- I swear -- I see YODA in this set of rocks...by "A"

The Mouse Trap -- where lots of Indian hieroglyphics were found.

The Mouse Trap in Black and White.

The water found in the desert -- and the rocks reflected in this "big" pool.

The "Seven Sisters" -- we aren't sure of the story about this one..

"A" among the rocks with her camera -- she was shooting wide angle here.

And my fav photo --

Bill caught this cactus bush jutting out among the rocks -- hanging on -- yet shining and living in the beauty of God's beautiful land. Like so many of us do everyday in life -- we hang on for dear life -- trying to shine -- and too often - not noticing the beauty that surrounds us ...

Take time to see the "Valley of Fire" in your life ...

Then share it with others !!

Thanks for sharing in our photos ...

TTYS !!
